State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) plans to develop India’s first Net Zero Industrial Park in Chennai, the State Capital of Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with partners from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore-India Partnership Office (SIPO), and the Centre for Liveable Cities. As a first step in that direction, a framework is being crafted as a reference to guide the process.
While Net Zero frameworks for businesses and buildings have been established, the NZIP Framework aims to pave the way for districts with multiple tenants, pioneering the definition of reporting boundaries and addressing scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The NZIP will provide common services aligned with the framework’s principles, reducing carbon footprints in energy, water, waste, and buildings that enables its tenants to achieve net zero industrial development.
The session will bring to the fore perspectives from private sector businesses and financial institutions on current examples and challenges, and deliberate on the means to develop a framework for effective planning, management and reporting to create a sustainable and resilient Net Zero Industrial Park.
